Update on Canine Influenza and Leptospirosis Countywide Outbreaks 9-17-21

K9 Loft Family,

We want to continue to share updates with you regarding Canine Influenza and Leptospirosis. We have had several cases of coughing pets at our Echo Park location. We haven't received a positive canine influenza test result, but we are working based on the assumption that there are some positive results. In addition, we have just spoken to Dr. Karen Ehnert, Director and Chief Veterinarian at with LA County’s Veterinary Public Health. She advised that due to the rapidly developing situation surrounding Canine Influenza and Leptospirosis in Southern California, the County has issued an updated recommendation for all facilities where dogs congregate. The County highly recommends requiring vaccination for both leptospirosis and canine influenza for dogs BEFORE entering a facility.

In light of this new information, we are going to follow the County's recommendation and make it effective immediately. Starting Saturday, September 18, 2021, all incoming pets to K9 Loft must have the first of two boosters for both Canine Influenza and Leptospirosis.

We understand that this may pose some hardship on some of our dear and valued customers, but we are considering all K9 Loft pet's health and also the greater community's pet health.

We urge everyone to please get your pets vaccinated as soon as possible. We are continuing to work with local veterinarians to add additional vaccine clinics as soon as possible. We will share that information as soon as we have it.

The County's update can be found here.

Information about an upcoming vaccine clinic can be found here.

Our previous updates: 9/7/21, 9/9/21, 9/13/21

We know this has been an incredibly difficult time for pet owners, especially those that have been affected directly by Canine Influenza or Leptospirosis. Thank you for all of the positive words we have received over the last couple weeks. We look forward to our community getting on the other side of this thing.

Sincerely,

Gil Dan
