The Importance of Keeping Your Dog's Vaccine Records Updated

Your dog’s vaccination records are easy to overlook until you’re getting ready for daycare, planning a boarding stay, or heading to a grooming appointment. Keeping a current copy somewhere easy to find makes preparing for those visits simpler.

At K9 Loft, vaccination requirements vary by service. Here’s how to organize your dog’s records and check that you have what you need before visiting our Echo Park, Sherman Oaks, or Pasadena locations.

Which vaccinations does K9 Loft require?

For daycare and boarding, dogs must be current on:

  • Rabies

  • Distemper/Parvo (DHPP)

  • Bordetella

  • Leptospirosis

Canine Influenza vaccination is also recommended.

For grooming and dental cleaning, dogs must be current on:

  • Rabies

  • Distemper/Parvo (DHPP)

  • Bordetella

Leptospirosis and Canine Influenza vaccinations are recommended for these services.

You can review our vaccination requirements and frequently asked questions before your visit. If you’re unsure whether your dog’s records meet the requirements, contact your local K9 Loft team before arrival.

Ask your veterinarian for a current copy

If your records are missing or scattered across old emails, start by asking your veterinarian’s office for your dog’s current vaccination record. Request a digital copy that you can save and send when needed.

Check that the document belongs to the correct dog and that the vaccination information is readable. If you have records from more than one veterinary office, gather those together so you can provide the relevant documents.

Questions about whether a vaccination is due, or which vaccinations are appropriate for your dog, belong with your veterinarian. The records document your dog’s vaccination history; keeping the paperwork organized doesn’t replace veterinary care.

Keep the records somewhere easy to find

Choose a place on your phone or computer where you’ll remember to look. A dedicated pet folder, a notes app, or a clearly labeled email folder can work well.

A few simple habits can help:

  • Name the file with your dog’s name and the date you received it.

  • Keep a readable PDF or photo available.

  • Replace the saved copy when your veterinarian issues updated records.

  • Check the records when you begin planning a visit, rather than waiting until drop-off.

If you have multiple dogs, keep their documents separately labeled to avoid sending the wrong record.

Send updated records before your visit

K9 Loft’s FAQs explain how to submit vaccination records through our online profile form, by email, or with help from our team in person. Sending them ahead gives the team an opportunity to review the information and address questions before you arrive.

When your dog receives an updated vaccination record, send the new version to K9 Loft too. Updating the copy on your phone doesn’t automatically update the records we have on file.

Ready for a day of play or an overnight stay?

With your records organized, you can focus on planning the care your dog needs. Explore daycare at K9 Loft or learn what to expect from a boarding stay.

Our local team is happy to help you check the requirements and prepare for your dog’s visit.
